The Tao of Gaming

Boardgames and lesser pursuits

Wordtwist

Yeah, it’s just an online boggle, but its an online boggle with a community that is much better than I am. (I think I’ve gotten an above average score maybe 2% of the time). So, that may be of interest. Link.

  2. Playing the 5-by-5, most of the puzzles — I wouldn’t be surprised if all of them were — are built around gigantic words, like 12+ letters. I just made a 15-letter-word, which I would argue is basically impossible without intention in the design of the grid.

    • I have noticed very long words popping up often (I’ve seen a 16 letter word), so your hypothesis is probably correct. Now that I know that I may start looking for them, I assume they score amazingly well.

      • You’d think, but the way the scoring is set up, a lot of the points come from obscure scrabble-only words that are fairly short. Three obscure scrabble 4-letter scrabble words are 18 points, which is around what a super long but common word is worth. There are some weird scoring results — for instance ANIS is worth 6 points and ANISE is only worth 5.
