Clash of Cultures
Clash of cultures is a workmanlike design that is totally not based on a Civilization computer game you may have played at some point.
Nor is it just a hodgepodge of reasonable mechanisms designed to hide the fact that a fair chunk of your VPs you get by fulfilling objectives randomly dealt to you, and that if you get a nice cross section but some opponent gets cards like
- “Have a big navy,”
- “Win a naval battle”
- “Since a song by the village people”
that synergize, you may have a problem.
But the components are nice.
A fine game, which just goes to show how easy it is to slap something together and have a playable 4x game, but how hard it is to make it shine. I think I’ll play Eclipse again.
