The Tao of Gaming

Boardgames and lesser pursuits

  • Dungeon Raiders is not bad, but will never be spoken of again. A better game than Quarriors, but less fun. Actually, Quarriors is now in the “Never to be spoken of again” category. It’s a big club.
  • The Sword and Potions web game finally makes me understand what people see in Farmville (etc). I will now do the dance of shame.
  • Nobody puts Hitler in the Closet. Except Rory.
  • At the game day, the youtube music channel streamed Falco immediately followed by Taco. No way that was random.
  • Man videos from the 80s are funny and nostalgic. It’s like a televised Dance of Shame.

  1. I feel like the guy at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. “Quarriors isn’t fun! Don’t play it! It’s boring!” But no one listens…

  2. @San: My observation was that Quarriors was like playing Dominion with a very watered down deck. It’s as if whenever you gained a Village or something, you actually gained 3 Villages, 2 Copper, and a Silver.

The very idea that the die you buy into your deck only maybe does the thing you bought it for… kinda undermines the entire mechanism of deck building :/

    • It’s not even the random nature of the game, although that doesn’t help. It takes all that is good and fun about a dice mechanic and drains it of any tension. There’s no excitement or risk-taking. It’s all the randomness of dice with all the personality of Dominion.
