Oscar Night

Factoid — in our game of Traum fabrik last night, the winner was determined by how many directors that showed up to the last party. If it was zero, I won, and 1, 2 and 3 directors all gave the win to a different person. Does that indicate:

  • Clever play by all involved,
  • Traumfabrik is mostly luck, or j
  • Just a cosmic coincidence?

Only Preston Sturges knows for sure….

  1. Well, a surprisingly low number of directors had shown up – Odds were high that at least one was at the final party. I was definitely excited to see the second — I worked hard to position myself to have the second choice (first was far out of reach), and to let that choice finish my “Knizia as the voice of Bambi” worst film pick.

In some sense it’s luck of the draw, but it’s probabalistic, similar to RA near the end — you know roughly what the bag distribution is, and play the odds. Then you draw the tile, and say a quick prayer before you turn it over!

  2. Thinking about it, the auctions are nimlike. The number to hit is the one that maxes the number of contracts in the middle. You should be able to destroy opponents who don’t realize this. I’m not sure how interesting the game would be if everyone did realize this.
