Black Friday Update

Now that I’ve played with the right rules, I’m ready to declare Black Friday the new hotness. The New Hotness is a fickle title, to be sure, lightly bestowed and easily revoked; but that’s a much better prognosis than what I had after the wrong rules.

So let it be blogged. So let it be done.

  1. Yep, was just about to post about this as well after our first game last night. Brilliant game when played with the right rules. I now know never to invest in the stock market.

  2. Yes, I’m also a big fan of Black Friday. I’m currently leading the BGG “most played” standings, though that will soon end, I’m sure.

We didn’t find the published English rules hard to use, but I had played it 11 times as a prototype.

My one question is what to do when you need to refill the sales track and there are not two of a color. We decided to use all that were available.

  3. And Friedemann has now verified that this is correct – and that the check for “none in the market – move up” is before, rather than after, the “fill the sales chart” action.

  4. Just got my copy and I cannot BELIEVE that there are no player aids! No wonder so many people are screwing up the rules! There’s just so much shit going on that it’s got to be tough to remember what happens when. It baffles me that publishers release games like this. Well, I think Kosmos is suffering from their shortsightedness. I’m preparing a sheet summarizing the actions and the price adjustment procedure and I HOPE that lets us play an error-free first game.

    • To be fair, all of our problems were with the setup. The problem was that we (and by we, I mean the owner of the game) spent so much time going over and reviewing the rules for price adjustments that he quickly skimmed over the rest of the rules … leading to the wrong setup. But yes, it needs a player aid.
