The Tao of Gaming

Boardgames and lesser pursuits

In the mail and in the flesh

In the mail — Cyclades.  Read the rules, looks good. Hope to get it to the table next week.

In the flesh — World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game. Apart from “adventure” (which implies excitement), I find little wrong with that title. However, it plays in 60-90 minutes, probably half the time of the big WoW game, so I rate it higher.

In the mail — the Alea Treasure Chest. I’ll probably wind up trying the San Juan, Puerto Rico, Notre Dame and Princes of Florence expansions. The others are for trade…

In the flesh — Stone Age. Much better than WoW:”Adventure” but I still don’t see the hype. It’s not bad, but a Top 25 game on BGG?

In the mail — the Pandemic expansion. I’m giving this to the elder Taoling for her birthday.

In the flesh — Still enjoying Dominion expansions.

  1. Stone Age keeps growing on me. I really think it’s best as a 2-player game, and goes downhill from there.

It becomes a game of min-maxing, similar to Hey, That’s My Fish, or the second half of Fjords where you are deciding what you need to grab now, vs what can wait until later.

    Very simple, but fun decisions.
