The Tao of Gaming

Boardgames and lesser pursuits

Some ego-stats

According to BGG, I played my 3000th game of the decade (2000-present). [The dates for games played prior to 2005 are wrong, I just threw them onto one year]. Like some (very few) gamers, I track my games. Anyway, here are some rough stats:

[None of these numbers include online games]

Number of Total Plays — 3002
Unique Games Played — 465
Plays/game — 6.45

That last number is pretty high, thanks to Shadowfist, which has 722 plays.

Plays/game — 4.91 (not counting Shadowfist)

# of titles that only got a single play — 206.

So, about half the games I’ve played get one moment on the table. Some of that is obvious enough: a bad title, or a lukewarm one that nobody around here suggests. But there are also a few longer games, or old games (Netrunner), and a few new games that I’d like to play again (Antiquity). Lots of wargames on the single play list (Europe Engulfed, Pax Romana, Sword of Rome, Wilderness War).

# of titles with 50+ plays — 5
(Shadowfist, Race for the Galaxy, San Juan, To Court the King, and Puerto Rico).

# of titles with 25+ plays — 21
# of titles with 10+ plays — 73
# of titles with 5+ plays — 125

Alright, this is too geeky even for me.

  1. I find it interesting that you only have five games that you’ve played as many as 50 times this decade, and yet you managed to achieve that total with Race for the Galaxy in one week!

  2. Well, 3-4 weeks. (I got ~40 plays the first year it showed up at the Gathering). And it’s being a short game helps. I’ve gotten in 25 games of Glory to Rome since April …
