Android:Netrunner Initial Thoughts
I’ve now played a few games of Android:Netrunner … I played Netrunner quite a bit when it was out, so I’m coming from the Point of View of someone familiar with the old school game.
Out of the box, the game plays very much like sealed deck netrunner. You don’t know much, so you make runs, bluff and double bluff. Quite fun. I suspect that after 10+ games you’ll know what the prebuilt decks contain a bit too well.
The factioning makes for interesting deckbuilding constraints, but it’s likely too constrained (a bit) right now, particularly that each faction’s agendas (think “goals”) are set in stone. So if you see a Jinteki deck, you know quite a bit about it. Hopefully after a few mini expansions each faction will gain a bit of flexibility.
The “Max 3 per deck” and “Max X points of out of faction cards” will, I hope, work quite well in the long run. I don’t know if it will necessarily be much cheaper than a CCG, but it will be a level playing field and should make constructed much better than Netrunner eventually became.
Rating — Enthusiastic. I may pick up a second core set, particularly if the Taoling likes this enough to deck build.
